What to know before you arrive:
Ski Cortland is the perfect getaway for alpine enthusiasts who want to grab a few great runs before taking it easy with a good brew, or those who are done with downhill, but want to watch the grandkids tackle their first bunny slopes.
In addition to skiing, it's the ideal destination for a romantic tête-à-tête . Located just eight miles from Greek Peak Mountain Resort, the city of Cortland provides upscale B&Bs, elegant dining options, and off-hill entertainment at the Cortland Repertory Theatre, and the Cortland Beer Company.
From Rochester, Cortland is about 2 hours east, skirting around the Finger Lakes Region. The Alumni House B&B in Cortland offers upscale accommodations in the heart of the historic downtown district, and easy access to some of the best restaurants in the city.
Day One: Skiing, Sipping & Savoring
If you want first chair, plan on arriving at Greek Peak Mountain Resort at 8:30 am. Located in the famous "Snow Belt" of New York State, first tracks at Greek Peak are yours to chase. Find 33 trails of varied terrain, from glades if you're feeling adventurous, to wide cruisers and loads of trails to take the grandkids on.
Continue skiing Greek's steeps, or hit the cross country trails at the resort's Nordic Center and explore the snow-covered forests and groomed paths around Hope Lake Lodge.
Hope Lake Lodge offers both gourmet and standard lunch options at two restaurants, providing an ideal place to enjoy a craft brew from a local brewery, or a glass of wine from the Finger Lakes Region. Hit the slopes or trails to wrap up the day of skiing at Greek Peak and don't miss the sunset, as they are pretty spectacular at the mountain.
Waterfalls Spa at Hope Lake Lodge, as well as MainStay Massage & Day Spa in Cortland, provides a full menu of spa options tailored to the après ski crowd. Work out the kinks with a deep tissue or full body European hot stone massage, or rejuvenate with an Aromatic Body Ritual.
After sunset, head to the Cortland Beer Company to sample microbrews made on site, or head to the Finger Lakes Tasting Room for a unique wine tasting experience in one of Cortland's historic buildings. Offering tastings of New York State wines, beer and spirits – all produced in the Finger Lakes - the Room's knowledgeable staff are available to provide recommendations.
For dinner, Historic Downtown Cortland and Hope Lake Lodge provide a variety of options, including The Hollywood Bar & Grill, featuring classic Italian and American options in a casual, Hollywood-themed setting. Nearby, The Community Restaurant on Main Street is one of the city's landmarks, offering traditional cuisine with a kick.
Day Two: Ski, Explore, Learn
Wake up and grab a meal at Whole Heart Café, or try one of several diners downtown. Many serve fare from local farms, including eggs & pork, and offer homemade bread and other delicious surprises.
After a hearty breakfast, head back to Greek Peak Mountain Resort for day two of skiing.
