1890 House
Historic mansion and museum

The impressive limestone mansion, now called the 1890 House Museum, was once the home of 19th century Industrialist Chester F. Wickwire who patented the process to weave wire creating the product now commonly known as screen. Wickwire Brothers was one of the largest manufacturers of wire cloth in America and was largely responsible for the wealth created in Cortland County during the Industrial Revolution. The impact is evident to all visitors visiting Historic Downtown Cortland and the Tompkins Street Historic District.
